A “Patch Test” may be performed prior to a chemical peel procedure to identify potential allergic reaction or adverse response to a specific peel product.

A negative patch test is reassuring and treatment may be performed with the tested peel.
However, a negative patch test does not ensure that an allergic reaction or adverse response will not occur at the time of treatment with the tested peel.
Preparation of the skin prior to chemical peeling using a topical product regimen can enhance peel effects. Topical products typically begin 4-6 weeks preceding the chemical peel.
Preprocedure anaesthesia is typically not required with superficial chemical peels.
The skin must be protected by two-four hourly application of a sunscreen. You are asked to limit your time in the sun and, if possible, wear a wide brimmed hat or cover your face with a thick cotton cloth when stepping in the sun.
